Directions from Faro airport

1. On leaving the airport, join the dual carriageway in the direction of Faro. Look out for signs saying A22 and Lisboa (Lisbon)

2. It will curl around to the right, and you will find yourself at a T junction. Turn right (signposted Loule) and it will take you under the road you are travelling on.

3. Stay on this road, until you see the sign for Espanha (Spain). Follow this sign, which will take you via a slip road to the A22 (sometimes called IP1 - don't worry about it!).

4. Stay on the A22 (IP1) heading for Espanha. This road will take you all the way to Spain.

5. After crossing the magnificent suspension bridge over the Guadiana River you are now in Spain.

6. Almost immediately after crossing, look for the sign saying 'Ayamonte Norte'. Come off the dual carriageway here, and follow the road, past a roundabout and up to the top of the hill, where you will find another roundabout.

7. Turn left, and drive to the bottom of the hill. Then turn right at the next roundabout, to Ayamonte Centro (centro ciudad) and follow this road, staying in the left hand lane. You will pass the bus station on your left.

8. At the next roundabout, take the second exit. You'll start to see signs for 'Playa' and Isla Canela, and 'Punta del Moral'. You are actually heading for the latter.

9. At the next roundabout take the second exit. Stay on this road for about 3km, going straight on at the first roundabout and passing the football stadium on your right, and, a little later, the golf course on your left.

10. At the roundabout with the statue of the mother and child, go straight on over the causeway.

11. At the next roundabout, with a large sculpture on it, turn right, keeping the river on your right. At the end of this short road you will come to the venue for your painting holiday, Residencia Playa Verde. Ring the bell on the gate for number 31, and I'll come down and greet you, and if necessary, direct you to your apartment.

 Directions from Seville airport

1. Leave the airport carpark and follow the signs for SALIDA (exit).

2. Keep to the left hand lane, and follow signs for E5 Sevilla and Cordoba.

3. Stay over to the left, and follow signs for Sevilla and Cadiz off to the left.

4. Follow signs for E5 and N1V towards Sevilla and Cadiz. After a couple of miles you will see a sign for Huelva, E1 and A49. Make sure you are in one of the two left hand lanes, and you will merge with another motorway.

5. Keep following signs for Huelva, and after approximately 20 km you will merge with another motorway. Keep following the signs for Huelva.

6. After another 7km you will see the signs for Portugal and/or Ayamonte. Ignore the signs for Huelva now, and follow the signs for Portugal/Ayamonte. (Don't panic if you miss this and accidentally take the road to Huelva. Just carry on through Huelva and you will soon see signs for Ayamonte - just follow them)

7. Drive for app. 40 mins, and take exit 125 signposted Villa Blanca/Ayamonte Este.

8. Go left at the first roundabout, then straight over the next roundabout and continue straight for about 1.5km.

9. Turn right at the T junction signposted Ayamonte. After joining this road you will see signs for 'Ferry to Portugal/Ayamonte'. Follow them, taking a left turn across the carriageway. You will soon see signs saying Ayamonte 9kms, Isla Canela 7kms.

10. Shortly after passing the tennis club on your right you reach the outskirts of Ayamonte. Go straight over the roundabout and stay in the left hand lane (marked 'Playas' on the road).

11. You are now at number 8 on the Faro directions. If you have any concerns, just keep following signs for Punta del Moral until you come to the roundabout with the big sculpture on it, then turn right to Playa Verde as above.
